Puppies have a lot going on now! Every day we take trips outside to play in the snow. We are lucky to have had above zero temperatures the last few days and the trend is supposed to continue. So the puppies have had a chance to get out and play every day. They run, tackle each other, chase Spryte and Spark around, explore, eat snow and generally have a great time. The puppies are having a ball with their new freedom.
Crate training started this week. The puppies now sleep in a crate at night when it is bedtime. The boys pile in one kennel and the girls in another. They will sleep together for a week or so and then I will start to put them in their own kennel to sleep by themselves. The first night there was wailing and crying for about a half hour before the puppies settled down to sleep. But the next evening they knew what was going on and they settled in right away without any crying. Right now they sleep for about 5-6 hours in the kennel before waking up and needing to go out. By the time the puppies leave they should easily sleep for 6-7 hours in the kennel at night.
We have also started car rides this week. We drive around the neighbourhood with the puppies in a kennel. The first time was similar to the first time in a kennel. Lots of yelping and whimpering. But after a little bit they calmed down and went to sleep. Car rides will become part of the norm by the time they leave here.
